The Last Blooms of the Year

The cold weather has finally made it here. We dipped down past freezing last night. I went out this morning all bundled up to plant the last Canna tubers I received in the mail and some Hyacinth Bulbs. I also planted a Sprekelia, Peacock Orchid and a Caribbean Lily. I can’t wait for the show next year. The posts on the garden blog will be slowing down for the next few weeks as the garden goes to sleep. We have several projects planned for the winter and I’ll be posting pictures as we progress with them. I also be popping in from time to time just to let you know how we are doing and I’ll post a picture or two to remind you of the past summer and the spring to come. Below are no doubt the last blooms for this year.

Thanks for visiting my blog! I love amaryllis, too. My 'Apple Blossom' doesn't look quite like that, though. But yours are very pretty! They sure bring some color into the winter world, don't they?

Kylee, I bought two of those amaryllis they are both the same color and neither of them look like the pictures I've seen of 'Apple Blossom' I thought to start with they might be 'Red Lion' but they aren't dark enough.

There are so many different named amaryllis, with more becoming available every year. I can't keep up! And they're notorious for being mislabeled, especially at the Big Box stores.
I've never met an amaryllis I didn't like, but I wish the suppliers would get their labeling act together! I bought a white one a couple of years ago and it turned out to be red!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your amaryllis are lovely...I especially like the close up photo of the stamens.

Thank you Connie! My pictures pale in comparison to some of yours! You have a wonderful eye for beauty!

I was wondering about the 'Apple Blossom' too it looked like a Red Lion to me. There is some variation in color intensity in the RLs some may look more orange than red.

But there is also a chance that they are not RLs and may be Orange Sovereigns(sp?) but I don't think the 'Apple Blossom' in the pic is an 'Apple Blossom'-I have one on my blog that you can search for the pic of mine if you're curious or just search on Google. They're white with some red or pink in the petals.

Mr. Brown Thumb, I believe you are right. I don't think they are 'Apple Blossom' either. They look nothing like the picture on the box. They are probably 'Red Lion' like you said. They are more orange though. Thank you so much for paying me a visit!

I had several 100 St Joseph Lilly amaryllis in my garden. They were left by the previous owners...thank goodness. I planted them in September and have not yet bloomed.

Dirt Princess-
How fortunate you are to have the St. Josephs! Have you read their history?--Randy
