Idle Rambling...

Patio

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, finally. The garden is well on its way to waking up at Our Eden. I’ve been strolling around taking note of all the things that need to be done. We had a particularly cold winter this go around and I’m pretty certain we lost several huge banana trees. I’m going to give it a little while longer before we plant something to take their places. I tried to divide them last year to share with a friend and I keep remembering how deep down the roots were, it’s hard for me to believe they could have frozen that far down. Fingers crossed…

The ‘Tangerine Beauty’ has more blooms on it than it’s ever sported before.

Jamie and I got several new Irises last year and I’m looking forward to enjoying the blooms this spring. ‘Autumn Tryst’ is a new addition to our garden; I’m still not certain where the autumn part comes in to the picture. It blooms in the spring and when I think of autumn I think of reds, oranges and yellows. Jamie planted it in the new bed we put across the back of the garden. We still need 12 daylilies to go in it. I want something spectacular though. We need really unusual ones that stand out when you see them. We’ve picked out some pretty good ones and I’ll be ordering them tomorrow.

This weekend our very dear friend of many years, Carol will be coming to visit. She’ll be arriving this afternoon. This weekend is the annual plant sale from the Birmingham Botanical Gardens; we always go and come back with a truck load. I hope eveyone has a fantastic weekend!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, too. I think I have lost a couple of dwarf gardenias this year. I am going to wait another week or two to see if they get some new growth, but I'm very skeptical. Your garden is looking good! Carla

Good morning. Autumn Tryst is absolutely beautiful. Love those subtle colors. I believe AT is a remontant variety that repeats in late summer/fall. I have a few rebloomers but the Japanese beetles destroy any iris that bloom after July first so it is pointless for me to even have them.

Your garden is exquisite again this spring. You two are artists.

Isn't it wonderful to see everything pushing through the soil and greening up? I think the cold winter challenged my plants, they seem to be very happy. Can't wait to see what you come home with from the garden show.

Your Tangerine Arbor is stunning with so many blooms! Tina and I were recently chatting about loosing our banana trees as well. It was a cold winter for sure. Luckily, I dug out some baby’s last fall and potted them and over wintered in the house. I will put them in the ground once I get a chance but so much to do and so little time….

The Tangerine Beauty adorns that arch really well! I like the pathway! How wonderful it'd be dotted with Irises! I love your Irises.

Things are really starting to fill in. The Tangerine Beauty is gorgeous! I don't think ours has bloomed yet. Tell Carol hello for us!

Tangerine Beauty is showing you how thrilled it was to survive your winter. I hope your banana trees come back. There is supposed to be one that will survive our zone 6 winters. I have never tried it. Your garden appears to be ready for visitors. I love the concrete balls. They look good sitting there. Did you make them? I have always wanted to try that. Have fun this weekend.

Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone!

Lisa,
Those are actually post caps that were suppose to have 12 inch square bases on them. The concrete guy forgot to put steel post in them so whe he took them out of the molds the ball broke off at the narrow neck. He had a bunch of them in a trash pile. I gave him a dollar a piece for them. They have little 2 inch long necks on them that are just right to anchor them in the ground. So many people have commented on them I think I'll do a post about them. :-)I thought they turned out pretty good and you would never know what the original intentions for them was. LOL-- Randy
