A Photo from our trip to Owen's Orchids.
Some time ago I had the honor of meeting, via our little online garden club, a nice young lady from Australia. Laura sent us seeds all the way from down under when we were rebuilding our garden after the storm. I was so happy to find out that she has a blog. Australia is filled with some of the most unusual and beautiful plants that you have ever seen. Laura is an excellent photographer and I have seen her post some gorgeous pictures of beautiful plants over the past two years. Currently she has a post up about a Variegated Peppermint Tree. Its one of the most beautiful trees I’ve ever seen. The dark bark showing through the light green foliage is just gorgeous! Meanwhile, I’m going to shoot her a note and see if that Peppermint Tree makes seed!

What an amazing bloom. It is so exotic it almost doesn't look real. I'll visit Laura's site and look at her pictures. Not only do they have some lovely flowers but Australian birds are beautiful too;)

I did see your note. I'm sure they make seeds but the variegated tree is a more unusual variety and is on the other side of the country and I don't know where I can find any near here. Maybe I'll just have to make another trip over to Western Australia ;-)
I can find seeds for the regular peppermint tree but it's foliage is not as pretty. It still is an awesome tree though.

From what I understand, it will grow in your zones 10 and 11. Not very familiar with your zones.
Western Australian plants typically like heat and dry conditions.
I will check with the nurseries here and see if I can find out some more information for you.

My parents (who are German/were Austrian) met in Oz. My mom loved it there and I'd love to visit. That plant is super-duper!
Thank you for the compliment, Cameron! I'm just an amateur, but every now and then I get a good shot. I think I may start framing some of them for inspiration.

That Peppermint Tree is gorgeous!, unfortunately it's only hard to zone 9b, :-( that leaves us out. I guess we could grow it in a pot!

We visited Owen't Orchids in North Carolina. I thought about doing a post on it but I don't know any of the names. I took alot of orchid pictures.

Thanks for the tip about the variegated peppermint tree. I love her images and am just imagining smelling peppermint in the garden. It would seem like Christmas all year.
I thought you guys would like that tree. I just keep going back to look at the photos. Pam, I noticed you asked about the leaf color, I don't think that's fall color, I believe that is a summer picture.
