I’ve always thought the photos I’ve posted on the blog have been pretty good for an amateur, but the secret to my photos is my beloved Sony DSC-F717. When I bought this camera it was used and I have loved every minute I’ve had it. Well, some of you may already know this, but my precious little camera is gravely ill and is not long for this world. It has an LCD problem that will cost several hundred dollars to fix. I made many attempts to get another used F717 at a reasonable price and was always out bid in the last 15 seconds by sniper bidders that owned camera stores. I finally gave up (for now) and bought a new camera. These are the first pictures I’ve posted that were taken with it. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it an 8, maybe a 9 when I learn to use it well. For now, the F717 has been put into semi retirement and will only be pulled out for the bird photos. This new camera is so smart it automatically takes a picture when it sees the subject smile and it won’t take the picture until you open your eyes if you blink. For the life of me I can’t seem to get a decent picture of the birds! Go figure… Anyway, these photos were taken in the afternoon light, which isn’t the best, but give me some feedback on what you think about the photos taken with the new camera. I’m still not completely sold… I think I’m just convinced that nothing will ever be as good as my old 717.

Yes, I think your pictures are always great, and your garden even better:) Glad you got a new camera and those darned snipers. I've heard of them before and bet that is a pain. Your blue iris is so beautiful!
Thank you Tina! I guess I being over critical of the new camera. I did a side by side comparison and I found qualities in each that I like better than the other. I should post the picture if I still have it.

I recently got a new camera, too. I needed zoom capabilities for a few professional projects and got the Canon SX10 IS. Not a pocket camera like my Elph 800.

It's just like everything else, I guess you just have to get use to new things. I think in the long run it will teach me to learn more about photography. It's not as point and shoot friendly as the 717. Bottom line, I'm just upset about my old camera. LOL When I move past that THEN I will probably love the H50. :-)

Your pics are ALWAYS amazing. They are always very crisp, sharp and clear.
I think these photos are beautiful. The color is great and they are sharp. I am sure when you get used to this new camera you will be singing its praises. It just takes time to get used to a new model.

Ooo, the Crossvine, white iris and purple iris at the end are especially killer pictures.
I am sorry to hear about your old camera -- cameras can be like old friends -- but these pictures are beautiful too.
Randy, I think they are just as sharp as the photos you took with your older camera.
I must agree with Randy that there IS a noticeable difference in the clarity of some photos taken with each camera. However, it is like I told him - he has to realize each camera has different functionalities and capabilities and the camera is only as good as the photographer!
Therefore, he must learn to adapt to the use of his new camera and when certain situations call for it, break out "old faithul"... LOL...

Thanks everyone! I'm sorry I didn't have time to respond to each of you personally, but I've been down in the back again. :-( Good news is, it's the old injury that usually heals pretty fast, Not the new one that's caused all the problems lately. :-) I'll be back to myself in no time!
Maybe to take bird photos with the new camera you have to get the birds to smile?
