Well! It finally happened, just when I didn’t think we were going to get any snow it decided to come. Jamie’s mother called at 4:30 AM this morning and made us get out of bed to check for snow. She lives about two hours north of us and she said they were getting boo coodles of it. Up we go to the window and we see plenty of flurries, but no accumulation. About 5:00 AM it started coming down pretty good and it’s been snowing for the last seven hours. Yay! I’m so happy we got snow! I don’t know what I’ve enjoyed more, watching the snow or the birds playing in it?

The birds look like they are having a fine time, indeed. What a lovely scene to wake up to this morning. :)
Hi Randy and Jamie. When I saw the snow in Alabama on the Weather Channel, I just had to check out your blog to see if you had finally received your much desired snow. It is a good thing you all have not had as much warm weather as we have had so that plants have really awakened yet for spring.
Enjoy it while it lasts.

Always Growing
If I knew it would have made you so excited I would have sent ours to you :)just kidding. When you do not have it so often it is a treat. The pictures are so beautiful with the flakes floating all around. Pretty mixed with the birds.
You lucky gardeners...All that gorgeous whiteness with the flowers just peaking out! I am so glad you got your snow wish! I say that with just the tiniest bit of envy;) We got a small dusting that was gone once the sun came out....have a delicious day and week! Gail
Well, that's certainly exciting! Your season is so far ahead of ours, but the snow looks lovely on all the color, and the bird photos are great! Enjoy!
Wow! Very exciting indeed!
From a VERY tired snowed in Canadian .. well you guys made me SMILE BIG time ! .. like kids with a new toy you are : ) .. the pictures are very pretty too .. love the birds especially and I think they are actually playing in it ! .. OK ... have it for 6 months and then see what you think of it guys ?? LOL
If your finches are anything like mine were, you're going to stay extra busy filling their feeders during this cold spell! Hey, maybe some of those finches WERE mine!
Lisa,
It was absolutely, positively enchanting. When you rarely have snow like we do, it makes for a very special day.*sigh*
Jan,
LOL I’m glad you checked the blog. You know I’ve been fussing and complaining all winter that we haven’t gotten any snow! I’m pacified for this year now, but I wouldn’t complain if it did it again. :-)
HHG,
Welcome, welcome, welcome! I wish it was as simple as you just sending us snow! I would have a hot line to you! Thank you for the compliment on the pictures, every now and then I manage to grab a good shot. The birds were having so much fun.
Gail,
It felt so magic this morning I can’t even put it into words. Wish you could have been here to walk with me this morning! :-)
Monica,
You wouldn’t believe how many photos I had to take to get those shots. I learned this morning it’s very hard for your camera to focus when you hands are shaking from the cold. LOL
Darla,
It’s always a pleasure to see you! I was giddy as could be this morning.
Joy,
I WAS just exactly like a kid with a new toy! I think if we had snow for six months we would not appreciate the beauty of it as much. It’s such a rare thing here. I’m sure if we had as much of it as you do it would get old very fast.
Cindy,
Those finches are little pigs aren’t they?! I don’t know how something so little can hold so much seed. I’m going to keep feeding them as long as they will stick around or until we run out of money, LOL whatever comes first.
You know, I don't think I mind the frosts so much if it snowed. That would be worth it. Well, if Alabama is getting snow, I guess it means it is time to bring in my plants. . .
Pretty, like sugary frosting flowers on a cake.
You did get some! Isn't it pretty icing all the bushes like powdered sugar! My dogs are having a great time playing in it too. lol
Your photos are so pretty. The snow covered flowers are prefect.
Don't you love watching those finches? Always squabbling;) Glad you finally got your snow.
Marnie
WG,
It seems like those heavy frosts can do more damage than snow, I wonder why that is?
Pam,
It was a pretty sugar coating on everything!
Raquel,
I was tickled as I could be; I’ve wanted snow all year.
Marnie,
I can’t tell you the pleasure we’ve gotten watching those finches. I stand at the bathroom window (where those photos were taken) for hours at the time watching them.
Oh Randy, what fabulous photos! Every one better than the next! I see your goldfinches are golding up too, a sure sign of spring! Ours are still pretty dull, but there are mating dances being done mid air in front of my window. They must know something good is coming. Your snow was beautiful but your pix of the colorful blooms covered by it were sublime. :-)
Frances
I can tell that you are so excited!
What wonderful photos! Now, you've got a blog journal of this event.
Cameron
Your garden is lively with all the bird action and snow. The daffodils look so sweet with their caps and shawls of snow.
You call that snow? LOL
Well, I supose it is where you live. I wish I could have sent some of our 65 inches we have had so far this year to you!
But your right, I do like the first few we get, but it does get old real fast!
Gorgeous pictures, Randy. I'm not the fan you are--I got up early and Ranunculus and I ran around delighted for five minutes and then we both said, "ok, that was fun, where's the sun?" But you remind me how pretty it is . . .
You're lucky, we got mostly a lot of cold rain here in Johnston County, NC! Blech!
I love the pictures of the snow on the daffs and hyacinth. The bird pictures too.
I love the bird pictures - how did you ever capture them in action. Great shots. They look like they were having fun in the snow - however I did not. Hopefully the snow will not spoil all your lovely blooms...
The snow on colors is a beautiful sight, Randy & Jamie. With the hot sun in the afternoons here (though this being dewy season), those snow-covered leaves and flowers are a welcome sight. I wish I could transfigure myself into a bird and test if your feeders taste good ;)
Frances,
I’m glad you enjoyed the photos! The Hyacinths do look pretty under the snow, don’t they? The birds were having a wonderful time, for just a few moments the garden was overflowing with a magic that you could feel thru your entire body.
Absolutely Cameron,
I was VERY excited; I didn’t want it to go away though. I am grateful for the little bit we got.
Lisa,
They do look like they are wearing little shawls! What a brilliant observation… Those finches and sparrows were flocking to the feeders like it was there last meal. LOL
Wayne,
We are ALWAYS willing to take any snow you will send our way!
Cosmo,
I bet Ranunculus enjoyed it. When Scotty was alive it snowed once or twice and he was never quite sure what to think of it. He would just sit on the patio, stare up at the sky and watch it fall. LOL
Sweet Bay,
I think we were very lucky too; those northern folks don’t have any idea how excited we get down here when it snows. I’m glad you and everyone else enjoyed the photos, what’s the point in taking them if you can’t share them with folks. Let me tell you, since I’ve been blogging I have seen some of the most incredible shots people have taken in their gardens. A lot of them gallery quality in my opinion, there are some true artist out there.
Hey there Hostabuff!
I’m so glad you paid us a visit! I actually didn’t figure out how to capture those pictures like that until that very morning. My bird and butterfly pictures have always been blurry. I got out my camera book and found out how to adjust the camera speed. I set it to 1/1000 or “1000” as it shows up on the LCD screen. I also set it to “burst” because they were so active, in that mode when you press the button it takes three pictures really fast. So out of about 50 photos taken thru the bathroom window I got a few good shots. I would have gotten more but I was also playing with the light exposure for the first time so some came out too dark and others too light. I have no idea what I’m doing; I just get lucky some times. LOL
Mouli,
Since they were eating Nyjer seed and most all of it is imported into the United States from India, you sort of are in the garden. :-) I know it’s a stretch, but I’m trying to find a way to link you too the feeders LOL
Those birds remind me of little children playing the snow... they don't seem to be bothered one bit. So fun.
Your snow didn't reach this far south but it brought us a few gloriously cool days. That's the way I like it. But IF I lived where it was as cold as you get... I'd want snow as part of the package. It is beautiful frosting your Hyacinths(?) and Forsythia(?) - not great with those since I can't grow them. GRRR. And the lion seems to be withstanding the pressure too.
Have a great day.
Meems @ Hoe and Shovel
Great pictures of your snow!! Love the ones of the daffodils. We had about 6 inches last weekend. I am glad it all melted yesterday.
Thanks for letting me know more about the Pondlady(Jan). I have been doing a lot of reading on her website.
LOL! Oh I forgot to mention the Lion. I was going through you post again and I realized that I forgot to mention the Lion in my previous comment. That's an awesome prop in your garden. It'd be cool to make it a cave of vines/shrubs, wouldn't it?
Just when we get excited about spring, mother nature reminds us who is in charge.
Randy - Just posted a pick of my Garden Pink Amaryllis. It is looking an awful lot like a Apple Blossom Amaryllis, if you ask me! Let me know what you think.
Yeah for the snow! I bet that was amazing all the way down in Alabama.
