Thunbergia Grandiflora
A.K.A Bengal Clock Vine or Blue Sky Vine

Thunbergia Grandiflora

Hello guys! I hope you are all having a good week. I just wanted to let everyone know that I managed to injure the Ulnar nerve in my left arm about 3 weeks ago, I have no clue how I did it. It’s getting better, but I really have to limit my activities with that arm and it is a slow healing process. I’m still going to be reading; unfortunately my commenting and posting will be almost nonexistent for the next few weeks. Just because you aren’t hearing from me doesn’t mean I’m not around. I’ve got my eye on you guys! :-) I’ll be back posting on a regular basis as soon as I can.

Hi Randy, sorry to hear about your arm. I hope it gets better soon. Gorgeous photo as always - I bet the whole vine is spectacular in full bloom - is it doing that?

Randy, please take good care of yourself and try not to rush the healing process. It is tempting to try and do just a "little", but you can end up setting yourself back.

Hmmm, isn't Thunbergia also the genus for black-eyed Susan vine? I like this blue fella much better. Hope your arm feels better soon. My niece is studying for an anatomy and physiology final--will ask her what that ulnar nerve is!

With something as nice as that to stare at while you recover, the time should go by fast.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! Some of you have asked how I hurt my arm. I don't know what happened. I had just finished cutting the grass and I was taking a shower and I suddenly realized my ring and pinky finger on my left hand were completely numb. They had been that way for three weeks and FINALLY this week the numbness is going away some. The nerve was either pinched in my shoulder or elbow. At any rate bendig my arm makes the numbness in my fingers A LOT worse so I have to type as little as possible until the nerve heals. Just this little bit has made them go numb again. I'm very confident from my progress this week all is going to return to normal. IF I do what I'm suppose to, which I am. :-)Talk to you all soon.- Randy

Randy, I'm so sorry about your arm. Having had carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands/wrists years ago, I know some of what you're going through. I hope you can make yourself rest up!

That Blue Sky vine has more blooms than I've seen on any here. My late pal Amy called it Pig Vine because it took over the area where she planted it; ran like crazy up into huge live oak trees; and only had a few paltry blooms to show for it! Much as I love the color, I haven't planted it for fear of that happening in my yard. BUT I did buy Thunbergia battiscombei today, $2 for a 3 gallon plant. For $2, it was worth seeing what happens if I fertilize the heck out of it and stand back.

Sorry to hear about your arm. Take care. Love the blue flowers on that vine. Is that a leaf from a cypress vine I see in there?

Randy - I had something similar, but it was a nerve running from the spine on the outside of the arm, into the hand. Remarkably (even he was not optimistic that the relief would be so sure or immediate) a good upper cervical chiropractor did a re-alignment of my neck, and the pain (which was non-stop for 4 weeks) was gone within a week, and the tingling in my hand was gone within the following week. You can read a bit more in my post here. I hope you will come to full recovery soon.
